04 March: Salisbury: GRU doubleagent Colonel Sergei Skripal & daughter Yulia poisoned by nerve agent on Park Bench, next to World of Cards & small pagoda style kiosk; on anniversary of death of Sergei paratrooper Valery brother, died in car accident after extreme weightloss prior to death. Arrested and sentenced to 13 years in penal colony for treason.

Sergei Viktorovich Skripal (Russian: Серге́й Ви́кторович Скрипаль, IPA:, born 23 June 1951) is a former Russian military intelligence officer who acted as a double agent for the UK’s intelligence services during the 1990s and early 2000s. In December 2004, he was arrested by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) and later tried, convicted of high treason, and imprisoned. He settled in the UK in 2010 following the Illegals Program spy swap. On 4 March 2018, Skripal and his daughter Yulia, who was visiting from Moscow, were poisoned with a nerve agent. As of 9 March 2018, they remain in a critical condition at Salisbury District Hospital. The poisoning is being investigated as an attempted murder. Shortly after the incident, the Russian government said they had no information as to Sergei Skripal’s nationality; British police said he was a British citizen. – Wikipedia: Sergei Skripal.

Valery Skripal died aged 68 after serving in the elite Russian airborne troops. Pictures show he suffered extreme weight loss in the months before his death. His widow lives in Kazakhstan but it is not clear where he had the accident.  – Daily Mail: Paratrooper brother of Russian spy died after ‘unexplained’ road accident almost two years to the day before his sibling was poisonedPoisoned Russian spy’s paratrooper brother mysteriously died after suffering weight loss two years before MI6 double-agent was targeted in Salisbury as the UK graves of his wife and son are revealed.

Inside a van, and rattling towards the airport, Sergei Skripal was in high spirits. It was July 2010. Without explanation Skripal had been taken from a penal colony, where he had spent the previous five and a half years, and transported in handcuffs to Moscow. Now he was about to board a flight to Vienna. His ultimate destination: Britain. Unlikely though it seemed, Skripal was about to be swapped in classic cold war fashion. On the tarmac at Vienna airport he was to be exchanged for 10 Russian “sleeper agents” caught by the FBI and on their way home to Moscow. Heading in the other direction were three fellow Russians, including Igor Sutyagin. All were accused of working for UK or US intelligence. …
Skripal’s case is different. The Russian security service FSB viewed Litvinenko unambiguously as a traitor. But Skripal received a pardon in 2010 from Dmitry Medvedev, Russia’s president at the time; in cold war times this should have made him untouchable. He had betrayed the motherland but admitted his crime (he pleaded guilty and got 13 years). He was swapped as part of a state-to-state deal. – The Guardian: Sergei Skripal: does revenge for treason lie behind harm to ex-spy?; Russia Insight: What You Are NOT being Told About Double Agent / MI6 Russian Spy Case.

Nikolai Glushkov discovered dead in his London home, by daughter; Barber: Ako Mohammed: Glushkov on crutches a fortnight ago.

Russian exile Nikolai Glushkov was discovered dead with ‘strangulation marks’ on his neck on Monday night by daughter Natalia Glushkova in New Malden, South West London. Little is known about Glushkov’s daughter, believed to be in her late 30s, but she graduated  from  Moscow State University, Department of Sociology, specialising in Mass Communication, Advertising and PR. She was listed as the co-owner of a “luxury lifestyle gentlemen’s club boutique” in Baku – capital of Azerbaijan – offering “top quality male accessories and bespoke services from carefully selected brands”. .. “It’s total rubbish these rumours about his non-traditional sexual orientation, and same about AIDS.  Separately it is known that Glushkov was the reason that Andrey Lugovoy – later identified as the killer of Putin foe Alexander Litvinenko in London – served a 14 month jail sentence in Russia. Glushkov had been jailed for defrauding Aeroflot.  Lugovoy was head of a security for a TV station partly owned by  Berezovsky, close associate of Glushkov.  Ako Mohammed, who runs a barber shop near Glushkov’s home, said the Russian had last come in more than a fortnight ago. “He was using crutches and had just had an operation on his leg,” he said. “He used to come in every month or so. He was in last about two or three weeks ago and asked us how business was.” – The Sun: Nikolai Glushkov’s daughter Natalia ‘found body of Putin enemy who once put polonium killer Andrey Lugovoy in jail’ in London home; The Guardian: Russian exile Nikolai Glushkov found dead at his London home.

Le Carre’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy series deals with the socio-cultural dysfunctional consequences of Father Son [aka masculine insecurity / fatherhood parenting] relationships. In one discussion between Jim Prideaux and George Smiley; Prideaux is describing the Soviet psychological torture processes; and how initially he simply relied on plausible deniable stories as answers to the interrogators questions. Finally he didn’t psychologically break or crack, he says he just ran out of stories; and started to dig down into the stuff buried deep inside.

Theresa May Gives Putin 48 Hour Deadline to explain Spy poisoning; Russia slams Britain for not using international law legal mechanism to probe Skripal case.

Russia threatened on Tuesday to expel all British media after Britain warned it could strip Russian broadcaster RT of its UK operating license if the government finds Moscow was behind a chemical attack on a Russian ex-double agent in England. 1984: George Orwell:

The war is not meant to be won; it is meant to be continuous. Eric Arthur Blair (25 June 1903 – 21 January 1950), who used the pen name George Orwell, was an English novelist, essayist, journalist, and critic. His work is marked by lucid prose, awareness of social injustice, opposition to totalitarianism, and outspoken support of democratic socialism. Orwell wrote literary criticism, poetry, fiction, and polemical journalism. He is best known for his novels Nineteen Eighty-Four and Animal Farm. Nineteen Eighty-Four, often published as 1984, is a dystopian novel by English author George Orwell published in 1949. The novel is set in Airstrip One (formerly known as Great Britain), a province of the superstate Oceania in a world of perpetual war, omnipresent government surveillance and public manipulation, dictated by a political system euphemistically named English Socialism (or Ingsoc in the government’s invented language, Newspeak) under the control of a privileged elite of the Inner Party, that persecutes individualism and independent thinking as “thoughtcrime.” The tyranny is epitomised by Big Brother, the Party leader who enjoys an intense cult of personality but who may not even exist. The Party “seeks power entirely for its own sake. It is not interested in the good of others; it is interested solely in power.” The protagonist of the novel, Winston Smith, is a member of the Outer Party, who works for the Ministry of Truth (or Minitrue in Newspeak), which is responsible for propaganda and historical revisionism. His job is to rewrite past newspaper articles, so that the historical record always supports the party line. The instructions that the workers receive specify the corrections as fixing misquotations and never as what they really are: forgeries and falsifications. A large part of the ministry also actively destroys all documents that have been edited and do not contain the revisions; in this way, no proof exists that the government is lying. Smith is a diligent and skillful worker but secretly hates the Party and dreams of rebellion against Big Brother. Orwell based the character of the heroine of the novel, Julia, on his second wife, Sonia Orwell. As literary political fiction and dystopian science-fiction, Nineteen Eighty-Four is a classic novel in content, plot and style. Many of its terms and concepts, such as Big Brother, doublethink, thoughtcrime, Newspeak, Room 101, telescreen, 2 + 2 = 5, and memory hole, have entered into common use since its publication in 1949. Nineteen Eighty-Four popularised the adjective Orwellian, which describes official deception, secret surveillance and manipulation of recorded history by a totalitarian or authoritarian state. The Company: Cold War Park Bench: This is not what we fought for; Great Game: Good Guys or Bad Guys: Which side were we again?

‘This is not what we fought for’ – Yevgheny and Leo on Park Bench.

So the Great Game goes on with or without us. Without us I guess. Think we made a difference Harvey? Any difference at all. God I hope so. These days people have short memories. There was a time when the Goths were at the gate and we put our warm bodies on the firing line.  You truly believe that? You bet I believe it. Something about the Cold War has to have a moral; otherwise what was it all about? It was about the good guys beating the bad guys. We sure screwed up along the way. Yeah but we screwed up allot less than they did, which is why we won. You know the Soviet Union wasn’t a country; it was a metaphor for an idea that looked good on a drawing board; but in practice it was flawed. Let me tell you something. A metaphor is allot harder to slay than a country and we clobbered them. Yeah. Well don’t look so glum about it. You got nothing to be ashamed of. You got to remember what it was all about. It was always black and white kid. Right versus wrong. There were good guys and there were bad guys. Which side were we again Harvey? We won, didn’t we?. – The Company 01.02.03.

The Company is a three-part serial about the activities of the CIA during the Cold War. It was based on the best-selling novel by Robert Littell. |  In 1950, best friends Jack McAuliffe, Leo Kritzky, and Yevgeny Tsipin graduate from Yale and prepare to go their separate ways; Jack and Leo are recruited to the CIA by Frank “The Wizard” Wisner, while Yevgeny goes home toMoscow, where he is recruited into the KGB by spymaster Starik while falling in love with Azalia Ivanova. |  In 1955, Jack has been assigned to Harvey “The Sorcerer” Torriti at a CIA station in Soviet Berlin, where East German defector Vishnevsky offers the identity of a mole in MI6 for safe passage to the West. At CIA headquarters in Washington, counterintelligence chief James Jesus “Mother” Angleton begins Vishnevsky’s exfiltration, telling his best friend and MI6 liaison Adrian Philby. The KGB and Berlin police show up to the exfiltration instead of Vishnevsky; Torriti and Jack escape, surmising the blown defection is due to the mole. | Angleton believes the fault lies with Berlin, infuriating Torriti, who aims to expose the mole by feeding him a barium meal; Torriti gives privileged information to a trusted contact in MI6, forcing the mole to protect himself by killing Torriti. Meanwhile, Jack is falling in love with his first asset, Lili, who provides information from an importantscientist. Jack and Torriti are ambushed at a meeting, proving that the barium meal worked, so Torriti prepares another. | In Washington, Leo has become Wisner’s apprentice, though Angleton dislikes him. Leo has fallen in love with Adele Sweet, whose father is friends with President Eisenhower. When Leo proposes, her father disapproves of the “mixed marriage“, but eventually relents. Yevgeny arrives in Washington and tries calling Azalia, but his handlers are unable to find her. By night he deciphers elaborate codes from Moscow Radio, and by day, his cover is liquor deliveries, including covert delivery to the mole: Philby. Torriti flies home to tell Angleton and CIA directorAllen Dulles that his MI6 source confirms Philby is the mole, but Angleton discredits Torriti. | In Berlin, discrepancies are found in Lili’s information. When confronted by Jack, she admits she was turned by the KGB, but assures Jack that she loves him. Shortly thereafter, the KGB murders the scientist and Lili commits suicide. In Washington, Yevgeny tells Philby to run before he is caught, then assures him that another mole,Sasha, has already taken his place. Jack is unsure if Torriti used Lili for his barium meal, and Angleton is devastated that his best friend was a mole. | In 1956, Jack is sent to Budapest on the eve of the Hungarian revolution, but he is abducted and tortured at anAVH prison. Torriti threatens his KGB counterpart in Berlin, demanding the KGB have the AVH release Jack, but Jack is rescued by the revolutionaries, who execute an AVH commandant as he tries to reveal Sasha’s identity. Jack asks the CIA to back the freedom fighters, but Eisenhower refuses and the revolution is crushed. Jack escapes and reconnects with Torriti, Wisner has a breakdown over his complicity in the CIA’s actions, and Starik tells Nikita Khrushchev of Kholstomer, his longterm masterstroke to cripple the United States economy. | In 1960, Jack joins Cuban rebels to help prepare them for an invasion, believing that the Kennedy administrationwill support the rebels. In Washington, Torriti devises a scheme to have the Mafia assassinate Fidel Castro; Chicago mob boss Sam Giancana suggests poisoning one of Castro’s daily milkshakes. The assassin is intercepted by the head of Castro’s secret police Manuel Piñeiro and forced to drink the milkshake. In Washington, Yevgeny is nearly arrested by the FBI and forced to relocate. As the CIA prepares the Cuban invasion, Angleton predicts Sasha will insure its failure. Bissell, the architect of the invasion and Leo’s new boss, scoffs at the notion, but the Bay of Pigs Invasion is a disaster, and Jack barely escapes with his life. Angry that the CIA and President let the rebels down, Jack nearly resigns, but Leo, who now has a son with Adele, talks him out of it. Jack is awarded a Distinguished Intelligence Medal. | In 1975, Leo is on vacation with his family, and Jack is working to exfiltrate Kukushkin, who promises information on Sasha. Angleton feels Kukushkin may be legitimate, but his obsession with Sasha has begun to cripple the Company. Using information gathered over decades, including Kukushkin’s new data and clues from the liquor store where Yevgeny was nearly caught, Angleton divines a system of masterful rhetoric to reveal the mole: Leo. | Angleton has Leo kidnapped at the airport and begins systematically interrogating him about his socialist father. Jack can’t believe his best friend may be responsible for Lili, Hungary, and the Bay of Pigs; when Jack visits him, Leo insists Kukushkin is a disinformation agent dispatched by the KGB. Mirroring Leo’s prediction, Kukushkin returns to the Soviet Union, where he is apparently shot as a traitor before turning up alive. Angleton furiously insists that Starik manipulated the Kukushkin defection so the CIA would believe Leo is innocent. Leo is freed and Angleton is forced to resign, berating his superiors that the KGB’s wilderness of mirrors has falsely convinced them they are winning the Cold War. | In 1987, Torriti has retired and Adele has committed suicide. Analysts present Jack with an old lead linking a ’50s Moscow Radio broadcast to KGB operatives, so Jack enlists the help of a dying Angleton, who surmises that the broadcast is part of Kholstomer. Following a sting, Jack comes face to face with Yevgeny, who made liquor deliveries to both Philby and Leo. Jack confronts Leo at his home and Leo shoots him, admitting that he was turned in college and that Adele killed herself when she found out. He phones an ambulance for Jack before fleeing. While Jack recovers, Kholstomer leads to the 1987 stock market crash. The CIA mitigates the damage because Starik greatly underestimated the United States’ economy. | In 1991, Jack offers Yevgeny an early release from prison if he reveals Leo’s location, telling him that Starik sent Azalia to the gulag, but he still has time to find her since the Soviet Union is collapsing. Yevgeny tracks down Leo, warning him before passing his whereabouts to Jack. Yevgeny visits with a senile Starik, then finally reconnects with Azalia. Jack travels to Moscow to kill Leo, but stops himself moments before Leo recognizes him. Back in DC, Torriti and Jack reminisce over their work in the Cold War, with Jack expressing misgivings over which side was good or bad. Torriti insists the CIA were the good guys, concluding with “we won, didn’t we?”

Garrison? Yes. Glad you came. Sorry about the precautions. I just hope it was worth my while, Mr…? I could give you a false name, but I won’t. Call me “X.”  I’ve already been warned by the Agency, so, if this is another threat–I’m not with the Agency, Mr. Garrison. If you’ve come this far, what I have to say interests you. I won’t name names or tell you who or what I represent. Except to say you’re close. Closer than you think. Everything I’ll say is classified top secret. I was a soldier, Mr. Garrison. Two wars. A secret Pentagon guy, supplying the hardware: Planes, bullets, rifles… …for what we call “Black Operations.” Black Ops. Assassinations. Coups d’état… …rigging elections, propaganda, psych warfare. In World War Il, I was in Rumania, Greece, Yugoslavia. I helped evacuate part of Nazi intelligence at the end of the war. And we used those guys against the Communists. In ltaly, ’48, we stole the elections. France ’49, we broke the strikes. Overthrew Quirino in the Philippines, Arbenz in Guatemala……Mossadegh in Iran. We were in Vietnam in ’54… …Indonesia, ’58, Tibet, ’59.
Got the Dalai Lama out. We were good. Very good. Then we got into the Cuban thing. Not so good. Set up an invasion to take place in October, ’62. Khrushchev sent missiles to resist. Kennedy didn’t invade. We just had our dicks in the wind. A lot of pissed-off people, Mr. Garrison. Understand? I’ll come to that later. So, 1963…. I spent much of September of ’63… …working on the Kennedy plan to get all US personnel… …out of Vietnam by the end of 1965.
One of the strongest plans issued by the Kennedy White House… …National Security Memo 263… …ordered home the first 1,000 troops. But in November, a week after the murder of Vietnamese President Diem… …and two weeks before Kennedy’s assassination… …a strange thing happened to me. Is Dave in there? You wanted to see me, General? I do, indeed.
You’re going to the South Pole. I am? Dr. Mooney’s got the details. Check with him. Have a nice vacation. I was sent by my superior, we’ll call him “Y”… …I was sent by General Y to the South Pole… …as military escort for a group of international VIPs. I was on my way back, in New Zealand… …when the President was killed. Oswald was charged at 7:00 p.m., Dallas time… …with Tippet’s murder. That’s 2:00 p.m. the next day in New Zealand. But already their papers had the entire history… …of this unknown, 24-year-old Oswald. Studio picture, detailed biography, Russian information… …and were sure that he killed the President alone… …although it took them four more hours to charge him with that crime in Dallas. It felt to me as if… …a cover story was being put out. Like we would in a Black Op. After I came back… …I asked myself, why was l, the chief of Special Ops… …sent to the South Pole to do a job… …many others could have done? I wondered if it could’ve been because… …one of my routine duties, if I’d been in Washington… …would’ve been to order additional security in Texas. I checked it out and found that someone… …told the 112th Military Intelligence Group at Fort Sam Houston… …to stand down that day, over the protests of Colonel Reich. I believe it’s a mistake. It’s standard procedure, especially in a known hostile city like Dallas… …to supplement the Secret Service. Even if we hadn’t let him ride with the bubble-top off… …we would’ve put 100 to 200 agents on the sidewalk without question. A month before, in Dallas, UN Ambassador Adlai Stevenson was spit on and hit. There had been attempts on De Gaulle’s life in France. We’d have arrived days ahead, studied the route… …checked all the buildings. Never would’ve allowed open windows overlooking Dealey. Never! Our own snipers would’ve covered the area. If a window went up, they’d have been on the radio! We’d be watching the crowd: packages, rolled-up newspapers, coats. Never would’ve let a man open an umbrella. Never would’ve let the car slow down to ten miles an hour. Or take that unusual curve at Houston and Elm. You’d have felt an Army presence in the streets that day. But none of this happened. It violated our most basic protection codes. And it is the best indication of a massive plot in Dallas. Who could have best done this? Black Ops. People in my business. My superior could’ve called Col. Reich and said: “We have another unit coming for security. You’ll stand down.” That day, some Army Intelligence people were in Dallas.
I don’t know who or why. But they weren’t protecting clients. And Oswald. Army Intell had a Lee Harvey Oswald on file. Those files have been destroyed. Many strange things were happening. Oswald had nothing to do with them. The entire Cabinet was in the Far East. A third of a combat division was returning from Germany… …in the air above the United States, at the time of the shooting. At 12:34 p.m., the Washington telephone system went out for an hour. On the plane back to Washington… …word was radioed from the Situations Room… …to Johnson that there was only one assassin. Sound like coincidences to you? Not for one moment. The Cabinet was out of the way. Troops for riot control were in the air. Telephones were out to stop the wrong stories from spreading. Nothing was left to chance. He could not be allowed to escape alive. Things were never the same after that. Vietnam started for real. There was an air of… …make-believe in the Pentagon and CIA. Those of us in Secret Ops knew the Warren Commission was fiction. But there was something… …deeper. Uglier. I knew Allen Dulles well. I often briefed him in his house. But why was he appointed to investigate Kennedy’s death? The man who fired him. Dulles, by the way, was General Y’s benefactor. I got out in ’64. Resigned my commission. I never realized Kennedy was so dangerous to the establishment. Is that why? That’s the real question, isn’t it? Why? The how and the who is just scenery for the public. Oswald, Ruby, Cuba, the Mafia… …keeps them guessing, like a game. Prevents them from asking the most important question: why? Why was Kennedy killed? Who benefited? Who has the power to cover it up? Who? In 1961… …right after the Bay of Pigs, very few people know this… …I participated in drawing up National Security Action Memos 55, 56, 57. These are documents classified top secret. In them, Kennedy told Gen. Lemnitzer, chairman of the Joint Chiefs……that from here on, the Joint Chiefs would be wholly responsible… …for all covert paramilitary action in peacetime. This ended the reign of the CIA. Splintered it into 1,000 pieces, as JFK promised he would. And now he was ordering the military… …to help him do it. Unprecedented! I can’t tell you the shock waves this sent along the corridors of power. This and the firing of Allen Dulles… …Richard Bissell and Gen. Charles Cabell. All were sacred cows in Intell since World War II. They got some very upset people. Kennedy’s directives weren’t implemented because of… …bureaucratic resistance. But one of the results was… …the Cuban operation was turned over to my department… …as Operation Mongoose. Mongoose was pure Black Ops. It was secretly based at Miami University… …which has the largest domestic CIA station… …budgeted annually for hundreds of millions of dollars. Three hundred agents, 7,000 select Cubans. Fifty fake business fronts to launder money. They waged a non-stop war against Castro. Industrial sabotage, crop burning, etc. All under the control of General Y. He took the rules of covert warfare he’d used abroad… …and brought them to this country. Now he had the people, the equipment, the bases… …and the motivation. Don’t underestimate the budget cuts that Kennedy called for in March of 1963. Nearly 52 military installations in 25 states. Twenty-one overseas bases. Big money. You know how many helicopters have been lost in Vietnam? Nearly 3,000 so far. Who makes them? Bell Helicopter. Who owns Bell? Bell was nearly bankrupt when First National Bank of Boston asked the CIA… …to use the helicopter in Indochina. How about the F-111 fighter? General Dynamics of Fort Worth, Texas. Who owns that? Find out the defense budget since the war began. $75 going on $100 billion. Nearly $200 billion will be spent before it’s over. In 1949, it was $10 billion. No war…no money. The organizing principle of any society, Mr. Garrison… …is for war. The authority of the state over its people resides in its war powers. Kennedy wanted to end the Cold War in his second term. He wanted to call off the moon race and cooperate with the Soviets. He signed a treaty to ban nuclear testing. He refused to invade Cuba in 1962. He set out to withdraw from Vietnam. But all that ended on the 22nd of November, 1963. Since 1961, they knew Kennedy was not going to war in Southeast Asia. Like Caesar, he is surrounded by enemies. Something’s underway, but it has no face. Yet, everybody in the loop knows. Forget about combat troops. He told McNamara he would pull out the goddamn advisors! He fucked us in Laos and now he will fuck us in Vietnam! He can’t afford to implement it before the election. I hear the NSC meeting was a real barn burner. I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. Heads will roll. Hear about Lemnitzer? What? Kennedy rubbed Lem’s nose in shit. Said if we didn’t go into Cuba, which was so close… …why go into Vietnam which is so far away?
There he goes again. Got his hand on the chicken switch. Lem said that the Chiefs still think we should go into Cuba. Money’s at stake. Big money. $100 billion. Kennedy bred voting districts for defense dollars. He gave TFX fighter contracts only to those counties that will matter in ’64. The people in the loop fight back. Their way. We have to control the intelligence from Saigon. We just don’t let McNamara stick his nose in this thing! Every time he goes over to Saigon for a fact-finding mission… …he comes back and scares the shit out of Kennedy!
Now I want Max Taylor on him night and day… …like a fly on shit. You control McNamara, you control Kennedy. I think it started like that. In the wind. Defense contractors, oil bankers. Just conversation. A call is made. Maybe to someone like my superior officer General Y. We’re going. We need your help. When? In the fall. Probably in the South. We want you to come up with a plan. -I can do that. Everything is cellularized. No one said, “He must die.” No vote. Nothing’s on paper. There’s no one to blame. It’s as old as the crucifixion. Or the military firing squad. Five bullets, one blank. No one’s guilty. Everybody in the power structure… …has a plausible deniability. No compromising connections except at the most secret point. But it must succeed. No matter how many die or how much it costs… …the perpetrators must be on the winning side… …and never subject to prosecution for anything by anyone. That is a coup d’état. Kennedy announces the Texas trip in September. At that moment, second Oswalds pop up all over Dallas… …where they have the mayor and the cops in their pocket.
General Y flies in the assassins. Maybe from the special camp we keep near Athens, Greece. Pros. They’d be locals, Cubans, Mafia hire. Separate teams. Does it matter who shot… …from what rooftop? Part of the scenery. I keep thinking about that Tuesday… …the 26th of November. The day after they buried Kennedy. Gentlemen, I am not going to let Vietnam go like China did. I’m committed… …not to take our soldiers out of there till they know we mean business in Asia. Lyndon Johnson signs National Security Memo 273… …which reverses Kennedy’s withdrawal policy… …and approves covert action against North Vietnam… …provoking the Gulf of Tonkin incident. Just get me elected, I’ll give you the damn war. In that document… …lay the Vietnam War. I can’t believe they killed him because he wanted to change things. -ln our time, in our country! -They’ve done it throughout history.
Kings are killed. Politics is power, nothing more! Don’t take my word for it. Do your own thinking. The size of this is… …beyond me. Testify. Me? -Testify. No chance in hell. No, I’d be arrested and gagged. Maybe sent to an institution. Maybe worse. You too. I can give you the background. You find the foreground, the little things. Dig, you’re the only one to bring a trial in Kennedy’s murder. That’s important. It’s historic. I haven’t yet. I don’t have much of a case. You don’t have a choice anymore. You’re a significant threat to the national security structure. They’d have killed you already, but there’s light on you. So they’ll destroy your credibility. They already have in many circles. Be honest. Your only chance is to come up with a case. Something. Anything. Make arrests. Stir the shitstorm. Hope to start… …a chain reaction of people coming forward. Then the government will crack. Fundamentally, people are suckers for the truth. And the truth is on your side, bubba. I just hope you get a break.

Depression Scrip of the United States in the 1930s including Canada and Mexico

A scrip (or chit in India) is any substitute for legal tender. It is often a form of credit. Scrips have been created for payment of employees under truck systems, and for use in local commerce at times when regular currency was unavailable, for example in remote coal towns, military bases, ships on long voyages, or occupied countries in wartime. Besides company scrip, other forms of scrip include land scrip, vouchers, token coins such as subway tokens, IOUs, arcade tokens and tickets, and points on some credit cards. Scrips have gained historical importance and become a subject of study in numismatics and exonumia due to their wide variety and recurring use. Scrip behaves similarly to a currency, and as such can be used to study monetary economics. – Wikipedia: Scrip.

Numismatic reference book. Emergency money has played a very important role in the financial history of the United States.  ….. The Great Depression in the United States produced a great outpouring of local currencies as responses to various aspects of the economic crisis. This article describes the basic types of scrip in use, assesses their legality and theoretical justification, and ventures some generalizations as to what sorts of scrip worked best. It argues that the widespread use oflocal scrip was not motivated by any systematic analysis of the shortcomings of the national economy, or of its monetary system. Rather, the scrip movement represented eclectic responses to specific economic problems created by the Depression.- Amazon: Standard Catalog of Depression Scrip of the United States: The 1930s Including Canada and Mexico Paperback. Economic & Business History Society: Local Money in the United States during the Great Depression.

Birth Control Pill

The combined oral contraceptive pill (COCP), often referred to as the birth control pill or colloquially as “the pill”, is a type of birth control that is designed to be taken orally. It includes a combination of an estrogen (usually ethinylestradiol) and a progestogen (specifically a progestin). When taken correctly, it works to prevent pregnancy. They were first approved for contraceptive use in the United States in 1960, and are a very popular form of birth control. They are currently used by more than 100 million women worldwide and by almost 12 million women in the United States. As of 2012, 16% of U.S. women aged 15–44 reported being on the birth control pill, making it the most widely used contraceptive method among women of that age range. Use varies widely by country, age, education, and marital status. One third of women aged 16–49 in the United Kingdom currently use either the combined pill or progestogen-only pill, compared with only 1% of women in Japan. Two forms of combined oral contraceptives are on the World Health Organization’s List of Essential Medicines, the most important medications needed in a basic health system. The pill was a catalyst for the sexual revolution. – Wikipedia: Birth Control Pill.

Soma

A fictional hallucinogenic drug to keep society peaceful and happy in Aldous Huxley’s novels Brave New World and Island. The novel opens in the World State city of London in AF 632 (AD 2540 in the Gregorian calendar), where citizens are engineered through artificial wombs and childhood indoctrination programs into predetermined classes (or castes) based on intelligence and labour. Lenina Crowne, a hatchery worker, is popular and sexually desirable, but Bernard Marx, a psychologist, is not. He is shorter in stature than the average member of his high caste, which gives him an inferiority complex. His work with sleep-learning allows him to understand, and disapprove of, his society’s methods of keeping its citizens peaceful, which includes their constant consumption of a soothing drug called soma. ….  Some children who enter the ward for “death-conditioning” come across as disrespectful to John until he attacks one physically. He then tries to break up a distribution of soma to a lower-caste group, telling them that he is freeing them. Helmholtz and Bernard rush in to stop the ensuing riot, which the police end up handling. – Wikipedia: Brave New World.

Petrolify Burger Pill

Petrolify . Burger.

Imagine there was a pill you could take every day that would provide you with wealth, freedom, and luxuries beyond the imagination of even the wealthiest kings of yesteryear. Taking this pill would give you the equivalent of hundreds of slaves, working for you 24/7, to grow your food, cool and heat your home, entertain you, carry you however far you wanted to travel, fill your bath with hot water, you name it… That’d be amazing! Well, guess what? You’re already taking it. And it’s called Petrolify®. You’re ingesting Petrolify® with nearly every breath and every footstep you take. Most of us don’t realize that Petrolify® is being pumped into our water and injected into our food. But we reap its magical benefits regardless. Did you sleep indoors last night? You can thank Petrolify®. Did you eat breakfast today? Again, that was thanks to Petrolify®. Are you reading this message on your mobile phone or computer? The miracle of Petrolify® never ends! Except that miracle comes with some deadly side effects, and an expiration date. That is why we created the above parody commercial, to remind as many people as possible that the dream we’re living—a dream fueled by a one-time, finite fossil fuel bonanza—is far darker than they might suspect. When we open our eyes to the hidden costs of Petrolify®, it’s easy to blame the ‘corporate bad guys’—the manufacturers, the drug reps, the doctors—who are pushing their product on an unwilling populace. But we’re not quite so unwilling, are we? No, we want what they’re selling. And, there is no “they”. They are us. Thankfully, our wellbeing doesn’t have to depend on Petrolify®. We can choose for our energy needs to be met with renewable, and more ecological and socially just, sources. More important, we can learn to live well with less. Conservation doesn’t have to be the “c” word. The first step is recognizing our pill-popping addiction for what it is. Please help spread the word that Petrolify® may not be right for us. – Postcarbon: Introducing Petrolify®: The Power of Petroleum in One Little Pill.

Is Petrolify® Right for You? Watch the video to find out. Ask Your Planet. Before taking Petrolify®. Petroleum is a miracle substance. With millions of years of solar energy stored in every drop, it enables much of what we most enjoy in life; from plastic toys and mobile phones to the highly complex global systems that feed, shelter, and govern billions of people. Unfortunately, our unparalleled levels of abundance come with significant side effects, which include awfully scary things like environmental collapse, species extinction and resource wars.

We don’t have to continue down this highway to hell on earth. Our way of life can be more beautiful and fulfilling than ever, and, importantly, for more of us. But it requires us being much more thoughtful about how and how much we use energy. USE LESS, LIVE MORE. Side Effects May Vary. Our addiction to oil (and coal and natural gas) comes
with some surprising, and potentially fatal, costs. – Petrolify.

Sichuan Lingguan Tower Tallest Pagoda in China Burnt Down; Fire Spread from Nine Dragons Monastery to Buddha Hall to Jade Emperor Hall.

A 16-storey Buddhist pagoda in southwestern China was destroyed by a massive fire on Sunday (Dec 10) afternoon. The wooden pagoda – reportedly the tallest in Asia – along with a prayer hall were seen engulfed in flames on videos circulating around social media. Citing the local government’s statement on Weibo, South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that the fire at Lingguan Tower in Sichuan province started at 12.40pm. According to local news outlet People’s Daily Online, the fire started from the main hall of the Nine Dragons Monastery. Because of high winds, the blaze was then quickly pushed towards the pagoda as well as the Hall of Arhan. The pagoda had been undergoing renovations since 2010, after the original structure dating back to the 16th century was destroyed during a major earthquake in May 2008, CCTV reported. … “The fire started at the Great Buddha Hall and spread to the Jade Emperor Hall. Then the wind was blowing and the pagoda was also on fire,” witness Yu Guixiang said. – Channel News Asia: 16-storey wooden pagoda in Sichuan destroyed by fire: Reports; Buddhist Door: Buddhist Pagoda in China’s Sichuan Province Burns to the Ground; Daily Mail: ‘Asia’s tallest wooden pagoda’ burns to the ground after huge fire engulfed the 16-storey tower for four hours.

Instinct:
Instinct is a 1999 American psychological thriller film starring Anthony Hopkins, Cuba Gooding, Jr., George Dzundza, Donald Sutherland, and Maura Tierney. It was very loosely inspired by Ishmael, a novel by Daniel Quinn. The film examines the mind of anthropologist Ethan Powell (Hopkins) who had been missing for a few years, living in the jungle with gorillas. He is convicted of killing and injuring several supposed Wilderness Park Rangers in Africa, and is sent to prison. A bright young psychiatrist (Gooding) tries to find out why he killed them, but becomes entangled in a quest to learn the true history and nature of humankind. Eventually it is revealed that during the course of Powell’s stay with the gorillas, they accepted him as part of their group; he was attempting to protect his gorilla family when the rangers arrived and started shooting them. He gets a hearing to reveal the truth, but an attack by a vicious guard on the other prisoners causes Powell to be reminded of the killed gorillas and stop talking again. At the end of the film, Powell escapes from prison using a pen to dig out the lock on a window, and heads back to Africa. Trailer. Clip: IllusionsThe Game.

Two of Hearts ROE Card

Archeology Awareness Playing Cards:
* Two of Hearts: Ninety-nine percent of humankind’s history can only be understood through archeology – Ancient ruins at Samarra Iraq
*  Five of Diamonds: Looters leave destructive holes and tunnels throughout archaeological sites. Report all observed war damage and looting.

The archaeology awareness playing cards are a set of playing cards developed by the United States Department of Defense designed to educate members of the United States military serving in Iraq and Afghanistan about the importance of respecting ancient monuments, to try to preserve the Iraqi and Afghan national cultural heritage. The goal of the publication of the cards was two-fold according to Fort Drum archaeologist Laurie Rush – to prevent unnecessary damage to ancient sites and to stem the illegal trade of artifacts in Iraq. The military has long recognized that educational playing cards are a good way to capitalize on the time soldiers spend waiting for orders. They were devised following the success of the most-wanted Iraqi playing cards (officially called “personality identification playing cards”) that were used in the 2003 invasion of Iraq to help members of the U.S. military identify wanted personnel from the Baathist regime. Approximately 40,000 sets of the cards were issued to U.S. forces. In the archaeology deck, each suit has a theme: diamonds for artifacts, spades for digs, hearts for “winning hearts and minds,” and clubs for heritage preservation.

Stormy Daniels $130,000 Michael Cohen Hush Money for silence on Porn Star Trump affair.

Stephanie Gregory Clifford (born March 17, 1979), professionally known as Stormy Daniels, Stormy Waters or simply Stormy, is an American pornographic actress, stripper, screenwriter, political figure, and director.  On February 18, 2018, President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen publicly declared that he used his own funds to pay Daniels the sum total of $130,000 in October 2016, ten days before the presidential election, to maintain discretion regarding an alleged sexual and romantic affair with Trump in 2006. On March 6, 2018, Daniels filed a lawsuit against Trump claiming that the non-disclosure agreement is not in effect because Trump never signed it. Donald Trump has denied that he has ever had a sexual, romantic, or intimate affair with Daniels. White House spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders, speaking on behalf of Trump, has stated that no such payments to Daniels were made, saying that “he’s denied all of these allegations”. – Wikipedia: Stormy Daniels.

3 Alt Righters: Britany Pettibone, Martin Sellner & Lauren Southern Banned from UK

Three activists with big social media followings from Austria, Canada and the US have been barred from entering the United Kingdom, in a move that some say is part of a crackdown on the far right. Brittany Pettibone and her boyfriend, Martin Sellner, were refused entry to the UK when they landed at Luton Airport on Friday. They were detained for two days, and then deported. Another activist, Lauren Southern, was refused entry by the Border Force near Calais on Monday. She had planned to meet with the couple and the former leader of the English Defence League, Tommy Robinson. Sellner, an Austrian and prominent figure in the anti-migration group Generation Identity, was due to make a speech in Speakers’ Corner in Hyde Park. He was the leader of a “Defend Europe” campaign last summer, responsible for targeting boats run by NGOs trying to rescue migrants in the Mediterranean. On his social media accounts, Robinson says he plans to deliver Sellner’s speech in Hyde Park on Sunday.
In a statement about the activists, a Home Office spokesperson said: “Border Force has the power to refuse entry to an individual if it is considered that his or her presence in the UK is not conducive to the public good.” – BBC: Why 3 far-right activists were refused entry to the UK; Daily Mail: Canadian far-right activist becomes third person to be barred from Britain in 72 hours for anti-Muslim views after Austrian and his American girlfriend are deported over plans to speak at Hyde Park.

Gary Cohn resignation: Trump Steel & Aluminium Tarrifs excluding Canada and Mexico.

Unswayed by Republican warnings of a trade war, President Donald Trump ordered steep new tariffs on steel and aluminum imports to the U.S. on Thursday, vowing to fight back against an “assault on our country” by foreign competitors. The president said he would exempt Canada and Mexico as “a special case” while negotiating for changes to the North American Free Trade Agreement.  ……… The Trump administration’s proposed tariffs on steel and aluminum imports will target China, but not the way most observers believe. For the US, the most important bilateral trade issue has nothing to do with the Chinese authorities’ failure to reduce excess steel capacity, as promised, and stop subsidizing exports. …. But the real target of the steel and aluminum tariffs is China. The Chinese government has promised for years to reduce excess steel capacity, thereby cutting the surplus output that is sold to the United States at subsidized prices. Chinese policymakers have postponed doing so as a result of domestic pressure to protect China’s own steel and aluminum jobs. The US tariffs will balance those domestic pressures and increase the likelihood that China will accelerate the reduction in subsidized excess capacity. ….. Gary D. Cohn, President Trump’s top economic adviser, who heads the National Economic Council, said on Tuesday that he would resign. His decision to leave came as he seemed poised to lose an internal struggle over Mr. Trump’s plan to impose large tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. Mr. Cohn had warned last week that he might resign if Mr. Trump followed through with the tariffs, which Mr. Cohn had lobbied against internally. – Time: President Trump Signs Tariffs on Steel and Aluminum – and Promises Even More to Come; Project Syndicate: The Real Reason for Trump’s Steel and Aluminum Tariffs; NYT: Gary Cohn Says He Will Resign as Trump’s Top Economic Adviser. Real News: Trump’s Tariff Travesty Will Not Re-Industrialize the US.

Leonard Cohen: Everybody Knows … The Energy of Slaves

Leonard Norman Cohen CC GOQ (September 21, 1934 – November 7, 2016) was a Canadian singer, songwriter, musician, poet, novelist, and painter. His work explored religion, politics, isolation, sexuality, and personal relationships.

The use of the album track “Everybody Knows” from I’m Your Man and “If It Be Your Will” in the 1990 film Pump Up the Volume helped expose Cohen’s music to a younger audience. He first introduced the song during his world tour in 1988. The song “Everybody Knows” also featured prominently in fellow Canadian Atom Egoyan’s 1994 film, Exotica. In 1992, Cohen released The Future, which urges (often in terms of biblical prophecy) perseverance, reformation, and hope in the face of grim prospects. Three tracks from the album – “Waiting for the Miracle”, “The Future” and “Anthem” – were featured in the movie Natural Born Killers, which also promoted Cohen’s work to a new generation of US listeners.
– Leonard Cohen Vevo: Everybody Knows.

Another excursion into the anti-art mode, insisting that “The poems don’t love us any more,” and heading each page with a small black razor blade. Some of the poems are slight throwaways, but by and large this collection has “aged” better than the more flamboyant Flowers for Hitler: its tone of mordant irony and self-criticism has a purity to it that retains (like a razor blade) its cutting edge.

Pawn is is a 2013 film directed by David A. Armstrong. An old gangster, with a hard drive containing records of who he paid off, is targeted by a competition between dirty cops, internal affairs, etc. The dirty cops hire a thug to get into the safe (in the back of a diner) at midnight. But he brings his friends and goes too early for the time-release lock. Another crooked cop shows up (for uncertain reasons). The shooting ensues and during hostage negotiations the thug tries to put the blame onto an ex-con who just got out of jail, so that no one notices the real target is the hard drive. Trailer.

Pawn Sacrifice – Bobby Fischer – MILINT Psychotronic Surveillance – World Trade Center Attacks.

I hear [the KGB] can even listen to you through the fillings in your teeth – Bobby Fischer; Pawn Sacrifice.

Bobby Fischer: Yea, how are you doing, Pablo? Yes, well, [the WTC Attacks] is all wonderful news. It’s time for the fucking US to get their heads kicked in. It’s time to finish off the US once and for all. – Ed Lund 40: Bobby Fischer – 11 september 2001 (9/11) full interview, transcript.

Pawn Sacrifice: Pawn Sacrifice is a 2014 American biographical drama film. It is based on the true story of Bobby Fischer’s challenge against top Soviet chess grandmasters during the Cold War and culminating in the 1972 World Chess Championship match versus Boris Spassky in Reykjavík, Iceland. It was directed by Edward Zwick and written by Steven Knight. The film stars Tobey Maguire as Bobby Fischer, Liev Schreiber as Boris Spassky, Lily Rabe as Joan Fischer, and Peter Sarsgaard as William Lombardy. Trailer.

Robert James Fischer (March 9, 1943 – January 17, 2008) was an American chess grandmaster and the eleventh World Chess Champion. Many consider him to be the greatest chess player of all time. In 1972, he captured the World Chess Championship from Boris Spassky of the USSR in a match held in Reykjavík, Iceland, publicized as a Cold War confrontation, which attracted more worldwide interest than any chess championship before or since. In 1975, Fischer refused to defend his title when an agreement could not be reached with FIDE, the game’s international governing body, over one of the conditions for the match. This allowed Soviet GM Anatoly Karpov, who had won the qualifying Candidates’ cycle, to become the new world champion by default under FIDE rules. Fischer showed skill at an early age; at 13, he won a “brilliancy” that became known as “The Game of the Century”. Starting at age 14, Fischer played in eight United States Championships, winning each by at least a one-point margin. At 15, Fischer became both the youngest grandmaster up to that time and the youngest candidate for the World Championship. At age 20, Fischer won the 1963–64 U.S. Championship with 11/11, the only perfect score in the history of the tournament. His book My 60 Memorable Games (published 1969) is regarded as a classic work of chess literature. Fischer won the 1970 Interzonal Tournament by a record 3½-point margin and won 20 consecutive games, including two unprecedented 6–0 sweeps in the Candidates Matches. In July 1971, he became the first official FIDE number-one-rated player. After forfeiting his title as World Champion, Fischer became reclusive and sometimes erratic, disappearing from both competitive chess and the public eye. In 1992, he reemerged to win an unofficial rematch against Spassky. It was held in Yugoslavia, which was under a United Nations embargo at the time. His participation led to a conflict with the U.S. government, which warned Fischer that his participation in the match would violate an executive order imposing U.S. sanctions on Yugoslavia, and ultimately issued a warrant for his arrest. After that, he lived his life as an émigré. In 2004, he was arrested in Japan and held for several months for using a passport that had been revoked by the U.S. government. Eventually, he was granted an Icelandic passport and citizenship by a special act of the Icelandic Althing, allowing him to live in Iceland until his death in 2008. Fischer made numerous lasting contributions to chess. In the 1990s, he patented a modified chess timing system that added a time increment after each move, now a standard practice in top tournament and match play. He also invented Fischerandom, a new variant of chess known today as “Chess960”.

Brat – Brother – All the Kremlin’s Underdog Goodguy Gangsters – Watermelon Assassination Escape on Tram – DiY Cannonball Gunpowder.

Brat/Brother: Brat/Brother (Russian: Брат, translit. Brat) is a 1997 Russian crime film directed by Aleksei Balabanov. The film stars Sergei Bodrov Jr. as Danila Bagrov, a young Russian ex-conscript. The character of Danila is considered by many in Russia to be an icon of the early post-Soviet period. Brother unexpectedly became one of the most commercially successful Russian films released in the 1990s and quickly became a cult film throughout Russia. Due to the film’s popularity and fan demand, a sequel, Brother 2, was released in 2000. Brother 2 is notable for having a significantly higher budget, more emphasis on action sequences, and taking place in Moscow and Chicago.
In the autumn of 1997, Danila Bagrov (Sergei Bodrov Jr.) returns to his small hometown of Priozersk following his demobilization from the Russian Army after the First Chechen War. Before he reaches home, he ends up in a fight with security guards, after he accidentally walks onto the set of a music video for the band Nautilus Pompilius. After Danila rejects a job offer from the chief of the local militsiya, who was a classmate of Danila’s deceased father, he is released, on the condition that he will find work within the week. His mother insists that he travels to St. Petersburg to seek out his successful older brother Viktor, whom his mother is confident will help him make a living.
Danila travels to the city, but his attempts to make contact with Viktor are unsuccessful. Instead, he travels around the city and befriends several people from a very wide urban spectrum: Kat (Mariya Zhukova), an energetic drug addict and party-girl, and “German” Hoffman (Yury Kuznetsov), a homeless street vendor whom Danila helps after a thug attempts to extort him. Danila knocks the thug unconscious and takes a revolver from his pocket.
Unbeknown to their mother, Viktor (Viktor Sukhorukov) is an accomplished hitman who goes by the street name “Tatar” but is growing too independent and is starting to irritate his mob boss “Roundhead” (Sergei Murzin). His latest target is “Chechen”, a Chechen mafia boss who was recently released from prison and runs an open-air market. Roundhead, who is unhappy with the amount of money that Viktor demanded for the hit, orders his thugs to secretly watch him.
When Danila finally finds Viktor’s apartment, he is welcomed by Viktor. To avoid exposure, Viktor passes his assignment to his brother, gives him money to settle into the city, and then lies to him that the Chechen has been extorting from him, and asks Danila to perform the hit. Although Danila claims that his army service was spent at the headquarters as a clerk, he carries out the task professionally. First, he asks German to find him a room in a communal flat in the city center (much to the dismay of the old alcoholic landlord who threatens to shoot German with his vintage hunting rifle, as revenge for World War II). He then constructs a makeshift silencer out of a plastic soda bottle and an oil filter, as well as a decoy firecracker out of a matchbox. Finally, he follows Chechen and, despite the latter’s security, takes him out without being spotted. As Danila makes his exit, Roundhead’s thugs spot him and chase him. Making his escape, Danila jumps into a freight tram and, despite being wounded in the abdomen, manages to kill one of the pursuing thugs.
The tram driver, a woman named Sveta (Svetlana Pismichenko), helps Danila escape. Later, despite her marriage to an abusive husband, the two begin an affair. Danila later recovers, with German’s help. With the money given to him by Viktor after the hit, he begins to enjoy St. Petersburg, gives his provincial image a makeover, goes to a concert with Sveta to see his favorite band, Nautilus Pompilius, and manages to scare away her husband. He meets up with Kat to go to a nightclub and then smokes cannabis in an afterparty, where he taunts a French tourist whom he mistakes for an American. The night ends with him sleeping with Kat.
Roundhead’s loss of a thug and the fact that Viktor employed Danila to carry out the hit aggravates him even more. He decides to draw him into a combined raid. Once again Viktor, suspecting a trap, passes the job to Danila. The two thugs raid the apartment, but their main target is away. While they wait, in an apartment on the floor above, a party is taking place with several well-known Russian rock stars. A young radio director, Stepan (Andrey Fedortsov) mistakes the raided flat for the party flat and is almost killed by the thugs, who take him as a hostage. Vyacheslav Butusov, the lead singer of Nautilus Pompilius, makes the same mistake, but Danila instead follows Butusov above and relaxes in the friendly musical atmosphere. Realizing the balance between right and wrong, he comes downstairs and finds that the thugs have just killed their main target, and are about to do the same with Stepan. Instead, Danila kills both thugs. Danila and Stepan drag the corpses to the Smolensky Lutheran Cemetery, where German and his friends dwell. Once again, German helps Danila by disposing of the bodies.
Roundhead is furious upon finding out what happened. Instead of going after Tatar, he decides to track Danila and intercepts Sveta’s tram. They later raid her apartment, where his men beat and rape her, and learn his phone number, as well as his address. A henchman nicknamed “Mole” ambushes Danila near his apartment building, but the bullet hits Danila’s music player, giving him a chance to fire back and kill Mole. Realizing that staying home is unsafe, he travels to Sveta’s house and is shocked at her state. Initially thinking it was her husband, he then learns who was responsible and realizes that the only way they could have tracked Sveta was when he returned a phone call from her home telephone to his brother.
At the same time, Roundhead raids Viktor’s apartment and forces him to call Danila at gunpoint, so that he comes to pick up his payment. Realizing the depth of the situation, Danila decides to end it all at once. He goes back to the communal room that he was renting, buys the rifle from the old man, converts it into a sawed-off shotgun, and replaces the duck-hunting pellets with nailheads. At Viktor’s apartment, he makes easy work of Roundhead and two of his henchmen and tells the surviving thug to warn the rest of the gang that anyone who hurts his brother will be killed. In reply, the thug tells him that it was Viktor who turned him in.
Danila forgives his brother, gives him some of the money from Roundhead’s suitcase (keeping the rest for himself) and then tells him to return home and to work for the militsiya. Danila decides to go to Moscow, as St. Petersburg, according to Viktor, “is a pretty town, but provincial nonetheless”. Once again he visits Sveta, intending to take her with him, but her husband has returned and is beating her. Seeing Danila, he challenges him to a fight, but before he can come closer, Danila fires a shot into his leg. Sveta rushes to her husband and begins to treat his wound. Danila urges her to come with him, but she tells him to get out and never come back. He leaves her a Nautilus Pompilius CD. He then meets up with German, converses with him about the influence of the city on its residents, saying that everyone is weak here, to which German replies that the city is an evil that drains the strength from those who enter it. Danila offers him money, but German declines, saying “What’s good for the Russian is death for the German”. Before he leaves the city, he finds Kat to say goodbye. She is indifferent to his departure, but he gives her money nonetheless.
The last scene of the film shows Danila walking out of a snow-covered forest. He hitches a ride to Moscow on a passing Kamaz truck. As he chats up with the driver, the final shot is of the winter road stretching far into the wilderness.

Brat means Brother in English: Movie.
One of the most popular Russian films of the 2000s was Brat-2, a sequel to the equally popular Brat, about small-time gangsters trying to eke out a living among the economic chaos and corruption at the end of the Yeltsin era. Both movies spawned a number of popular phrases and were quoted regularly. In the second movie, much of which is set in the U.S. and which came out just three days after Putin’s 2000 inauguration, one of the Russian heroes turns to his American counterpart and says: “So tell me, American, what is power? Is it really money? That’s what my brother says, money is power. You have a lot of money, but so what? I think the truth is power. Whoever has truth on their side is the more powerful.” For Putin and many of Russia’s citizens, this image of the tough, street-hardened, wily underdog getting the better of its slicker, richer but weaker opponent is one they nurture and cherish.

Jo Cox: Library, Market St, Cake Shop and Sandwhich shop

On 16 June 2016, Jo Cox, the British Labour Party Member of Parliament for Batley and Spen, died after being shot and stabbed multiple times in Birstall, West Yorkshire. In September, a 52-year-old local man named Thomas Alexander Mair was found guilty of her murder and other offences connected to the killing, and was sentenced to life imprisonment with a whole life order. Mair had singled out Cox, a “passionate defender” of the European Union and immigration, because he viewed her as “one of ‘the collaborators’ and a traitor” to white people. The incident was the first killing of a sitting British MP since the death of Conservative MP Ian Gow, who was assassinated by the Provisional Irish Republican Army in 1990, and the first death of a politician during an attack since county councillor Andrew Pennington was killed in 2000. – Wikipedia: Murder of Jo Cox.

Est cult: Mechanical Anus snapped & vomited

Thousands of educated citizens in New York, San Francisco and other cities buy $250 tickets for the latest pop-psych trip, Erhard Seminars Training, or est. A stubborn journalist reports his experience with est and with the supersalesman who invented it out of psycho-techniques, Eastern and Western. When you know you’re a mechanical anus, you’ve ”got it.” …. ‘What you’re seeing,” Werner snapped one afternoon, ”is people who know how to make the world work. People who know how to make life work!” The ”Training” is the common bond that holds it all together, and to talk to an est graduate about what it all means without having ”gotten it” yourself is a lot like talking about LSD when you’ve never tripped. Moreover, it is a crucial and well respected tenet of est that graduates will not discuss the content of the training with the uninitiated. …. The tension and harassment, along with the trauma many of them suffered at standing openly before a large crowd, produced a number of breakdowns. In each row of 30 or 40 persons who took the stage, there were usually four or five who sobbed piteously or even swooned, completely overcome. Tony usually snapped, ”That’s just another act.” One man hung his head and bawled like a soul in hell. Another vomited. ”The Sunday Night Massacre.” In the larger context of the est experience this ordeal is a key step in the process of conversion. ”The Sunday night massacre,” as one timid little man termed it, epitomized the aim of the first weekend. As in any serious training, the overriding effort is to hound and confuse the subjects until they crack under the pressure, and, in the helplessness of that moment, embrace the system. – Cult Education Institute: ”We’re Gonna Tear You Down and Put You Back Together” [archive.is/sl8LG].

Werner Erhard: Let them eat Est

What forces caused hunger in the first place? Erhard is vague about this. “Call them political forces, if you like,” he advises generously. “Study the political forces and you will see that hunger and starvation on the planet are the inevitable result of those forces. . . . If you don’t like the politics, do it with economic forces. If you don’t like the economics, do it with sociological forces. Psychological forces. Philosophical forces. Or if you prefer, a combination of them.” – Let them eat Est.

The 1978 Mother Jones article in which “we confront Werner Erhard with our awareness of his manifestation of what we’re clear is a big scam.” IN 1977, EST GURU Werner Erhard had a vision: He was going to end world hunger by 1997. To that end, he started the Hunger Project, a nonprofit that quickly picked up celebrity sponsors including John Denver, Valerie Harper, and Jimmy Carter‘s son Chip. But, as Mother Jones reported in December 1978, the group had no intention of actually feeding the starving, just raising “awareness” of hunger—and est. The article also exposed Erhard’s complicated web of offshore tax shelters. In response, est threatened to sue. It didn’t, but participants in one seminar were instructed to “focus all your negative energy on the people responsible for this terrible slander.” Twelve years after it was supposed to become obsolete, the Hunger Project now has only one former Erhard associate on its board and notes it has “no ties to Mr. Erhard or his interests.” – Mother Jones: The Hunger Artist: Let Them Eat est [PDF]

Likud Cookie Election Video

The workers in the ad complain that government reforms had prevented them from making money for nothing. Then a terrorist complains that he too had been put out of business by Netanyahu. Likud election headquarters last night took down an election video it had broadcast online which compared Israeli workers in the ports and Broadcasting Authority to a Hamas terrorist. The video shows a “Victims of Bibi” support group, in which parasitical workers complain about reforms enacted by the Netanyahu government. A Broadcasting Authority clerk complains that she can longer take money for nothing from the gullible public due to the cancellation of the TV levy. A cellular executive complains that communications reform had stopped him from overcharging customers and a tea distributor in the ports complains that he can no longer earn a massive salary for doing virtually nothing. Then, a Hamas terrorist complains that Netanyahu put him out of business as well. “The video, which illustrates the government’s achievements, was made with humor for the Purim holiday,” the Likud said in response. “There was no intention to compare anyone with Hamas and certainly not to insult many dedicated workers. The video will longer be shown and we apologize if it hurt anyone.” “A video that compares workers to murderous terrorists has crossed a red line,” Histadrut Chairman Avi Nissenkorn said last night. “It’s a disgraceful statement that has no place in Israel. The Likud and its leaders should apologize to all the citizens of Israel.” – Haaretz: Likud Election Video Compares Workers to Hamas Terrorists [archive.is/Go9pm]; YNetNews: Netanyahu ad compares dock workers to terrorists  [archive.is/rYMIB]; Russia Today: ‘Despicable and infuriating’: Netanyahu ad with Hamas terrorist condemned in Israel.

Moscow’s Seven Sisters by Hannah Chapman

Moscow’s skyline is largely defined by the seven towering skyscrapers nicknamed “The Seven Sisters.” Also known locally as “Stalinskie Vysotki” (Сталиские высотки – Stalin’s High-rises), they are one of the leading architectural legacies of the Stalinist period. The Soviet Baroque architecture that The Sisters embody is seen by some as unattractive; the buildings themselves are somewhat controversial due to the fact that some see them, with their looming size and sinister-looking spires, as grim reminders of the Stalinist repression. However, while debate still continues on whether these buildings are beauties or beasts, there is no doubt that they have become a major representation of the Soviet era and modern-day Moscow. Hanna Arendt: Little Eichmanns

“I wrote no defense of Eichmann. But I did try to reconcile the shocking mediocrity of the man with his staggering deeds. Trying to understand is not the same as forgiveness. I see it as my responsibility to understand. It is the responsibility of anyone who dares to put pen to paper on the subject. Since Socrates and Plato, we usually call thinking “to be engaged in that silent dialogue between me and myself.” In refusing to be a person, Eichmann utterly surrendered that single most defining human quality: that of being able to think. And consequently, he was no longer capable of making moral judgments. This inability to think created the possibility for many ordinary men to commit evil deeds on a gigantic scale, the like of which one had never seen before. It is true. I have considered these questions in a philosophical way. The manifestation of the wind of thought is not knowledge, but the ability to tell right from wrong, beautiful from ugly. And I hope that thinking gives people the strength to prevent catastrophes in these rare moments when the chips are down.” — Hannah Arendt’s Final Speech. Trailer.

Johanna “Hannah” Arendt (14 October 1906 – 4 December 1975) was a German-born American political theorist. Her 18 books and numerous articles, ranging from works on totalitarianism to thinking and judging, greatly influence political philosophy to this day. Arendt is widely considered one of the most important thinkers of the twentieth century. She escaped from Europe during the Holocaust, becoming an American citizen. Her works deal with the nature of power and the subjects of politics, direct democracy, authority, and totalitarianism. The Hannah Arendt Prize is named in her honor.

Russian spy Anna Chapman swapped for Sergei Skripal.

The British husband of Russian agent Anna Chapman — the spy swapped for Sergei Skripal — died two years ago at the age of 36. – The Times: Ex-husband of swapped spy Anna Chapman died at 36.

Anna Vasilyevna Chapman (Russian: А́нна Васи́льевна Ча́пман, born Anna Vasil’yevna Kushchyenko 23 February 1982) is a Russian intelligence agent, media personality, and model who gained notoriety after being arrested in the United States as part of the Illegals Program spy ring. At the time of her arrest she was accused of espionage on behalf of the Russian Federation’s external intelligence agency, the Sluzhba vneshney razvedki (SVR).[2][4][5] She had previously gained British citizenship through marriage (since revoked) and used this to gain residency in the U.S. Chapman pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy to act as an agent of a foreign government. She and the other Russians were deported to Russia on 8 July 2010, as part of the 2010 Russia – US prisoner swap. Learning that Chapman had wanted to return to the United Kingdom, the UK government revoked her British citizenship and excluded her from the country. Since her return to Russia, Chapman has worked in a variety of fields, including for the government as head of a youth council, a catwalk model in Russian fashion shows, and running a television series. – Wikipedia: Anna Chapman.

Age of Stupid: Resource War Corpses, Fat State Breeding & Consumption Weightloss: Convergence and Contraction; One Child Policy Climate Change Negotiations

The Age of Stupid is a 2009 British documentary film by Franny Armstrong, director of McLibel (1997) and Drowned Out (2002), and founder of 10:10, and first-time producer Lizzie Gillett. The executive producer is John Battsek, producer of One Day in September (1999). The film is a drama-documentary-animation hybrid which stars Pete Postlethwaite as a man living alone in the devastated world of 2055, watching archival footage from the mid-to-late 2000s and asking, “Why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance?”. The film begins in the year 2055, in a world ravaged by catastrophic climate change; London is flooded, Sydney is burning, Las Vegas has been swallowed up by desert, the Amazon rainforest has burnt up, snow has vanished from the Alps, and nuclear war has laid waste to India. An unnamed archivist (Pete Postlethwaite) is entrusted with the safekeeping of humanity’s surviving store of art and knowledge. Alone in his vast repository off the coast of the largely ice-free Arctic, he reviews archival footage from back “when we could have saved ourselves”, trying to discern where it all went wrong. Trailer. Wannsee Conference: Defining who is a Jew; Nazi logistical planning for gassing jews in ovens.

Conspiracy is an Anglo-American dramatization of the Wannsee Conference, an event that took place on 20 January 1942. Conspiracy dramatizes this meeting by recreating it in real time; the conference lasted ninety minutes, so does the film. The plot and dialogue are based off of the surviving meeting minutes, but most of the dialogue is invented as the minutes are not a verbatim transcript. Conspiracy focuses on how educated, middle-aged men met in a charming villa to discuss the logistics of mass murder. The camera rarely leaves the meeting table, and its documentary-style techniques, including eye-level placement and the use of long takes and close-ups, place the audience at the meeting rather than at a more distanced vantage point. Unlike most other Holocaust films, it portrays no victims, it tugs at no heartstrings. The men joke about the effects of gassing Jews to death, they get drunk, they allow petty jealousies and institutional rivalries to surface. There are no heroes in this film, there is no uplifting message or happy end. The film portrays key personalities of the Third Reich, most notably those of Reinhard Heydrich and Adolf Eichmann, but it also explores the power struggles between different institutions. In doing so, the film raises important questions about the inner workings of the Third Reich, the Holocaust, and the importance of the Wannsee Conference itself. – HBO and the Holocaust: Conspiracy, The Historical Film, and Public History at Wannsee, by Nicholas Johnson [PDF]. HEART: The Wannsee Conference.
